Biography

Sarah S. Butters has extensive experience in estate, trust and guardianship litigation; the preparation of wills, trusts and sophisticated estate planning techniques; and the administration of probates, guardianship and trusts. Ms. Butters also assists charities in obtaining their tax-exempt status and provides continued legal assistance to ensure charitable clients remain in compliance with IRS regulations regarding the administration of charitable entities.


Ms. Butters serves on the Executive Committee of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of The Florida Bar and is the current Chair of the Legislation Committee. She frequently testifies before the Florida House and Senate on legislation impacting the law of wills, trusts and guardianships. Ms. Butters is a Past President of the Tallahassee Regional Estate Planning Council, where she provides an annual legislative and case law review of changes to estate, trust and guardianship laws.


Ms. Butters is an Adjunct Professor at Florida State University's College of Law where she has taught Gratuitous Transfer (the law of wills and trusts) since 2010.  


Ms. Butters is a Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estate Counsel, where she serves on the Fiduciary Litigation, State Laws and Legal Education committees.
